New Anthology Release!

It’s release day! And for the first time I get to share it with three other authors. I’m in a new anthology out today from Just Ink Press called Into the Darkness. This is something kind of different from my other work, a short story that is more paranormal than anything else. There isn’t exactly a romantic thread and definitely no hot sex in this one, but I hope y’all like it anyway. 😉

Here’s the blurb:

Ignorance is Bliss by Missy Jane

Discovering your boyfriend has been unfaithful is never easy, but for Natalie it’s a complete shocker. As if his confession of infidelity isn’t bad enough, suddenly everyone she meets is telling her their deep, dark secrets. She soon realizes the trinket she bought at the flea market is more than a harmless lump of metal. Now she has to decide if always knowing the truth is worth the heartache or if ignorance is truly bliss.
There are also three other stories by three fabulous authors: Shannon Mayer, R.C. Murphy, and N. L. Gervasio.
So, what are you waiting for? Go forth and get your copy here!

New Release! Body Butter by Renee Luke

If the above book cover doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will! How about the blurb?

Because of non-refundable tickets and a loser, would-be groom caught with his pants around his ankles just before the wedding, Jade Palmer finds herself all alone on an exotic island, in a resort world renowned for its specialty creams. After a year of depriving herself to fit into the designer gown, she plans on flaunting her new slim body in a bikini on the beach, indulging in some of the resorts special creams, and taking care of her needs for a change. Her main need, a man to live out the sexual fantasy this trip was meant to be.
This resort gig was his mother’s thing, so how Ty Zamir got suckered into caretaking her business for the summer is beyond him. Worse yet, because of a scheduling mix-up, he’s left delivering breakfast to their newest guest.  She’s naked when he arrives–and dreaming–mumbling about fantasies and creams. Ty’s supposed to leave the tray of breakfast creams, and quietly leave her room, but he pauses and she awakes before he can.  She tells him he’s why she came–what she needs–and offers herself in exchange for being shown how to use all of the island’s exotic, edible creams.

Wow! Very hot. How about a little more with the blurb from book 1?

To prepare him for an upcoming feature role, chef and TV show hostess, Ellie Brown, is charged with teaching special guest, soap star, Derek Allen, how to create incredible desserts. Her Friday nights heat up during the live segment on summer desserts, where together they’re supposed to make scrumptious treats from scratch. The problem is, Derek doesn’t know a Dutch oven from a French kiss, and the only recipe Ellie can think of involves a certain hunk covered in sweet creams, who tastes as good as he looks. Not that she’s been licking…the spatula.

With her career and reputation on the line, she attempts to focus on her task, getting Derek familiar with cakes, whipped cream, and frostings. Enough so that he can fool the camera.  But Derek isn’t making it easy for her, not when his real talents seem to be charm and passion, and his prowess has her thinking of some off-camera action where the all those desserts can be taken to a whole new level. Determined to get him proficient in the kitchen so he can land his role, she spends extra time practicing creating each dessert with him, only to come to the conclusion, nothing’s better than mixing desserts and hunks– If only she didn’t spend so much time thinking about how to keep one off her thighs, the other between.

New Release! Impulse by Raven McAllen (Contest)

Isola Dei Sogni, where fantasies and dreams come true. Mia only went as a favor for her sister. Her fantasy was a good book and a bottle of wine. Until she met Dylan. Then her sense disappeared and fantasy took over. Was it all worth it?

Blurb:
Dylan has arrived at Isola Dei Sogni to help out—with reluctance and just as a favor. Then he meets Mia. If she’s the person he’s supposed to assist, then maybe the visit won’t be the waste of time he thought after all. His attitude has changed, and when he hears Mia wants to give him his fantasy? Dylan is never one to disappoint a lady…he hopes.
However, fantasies and dreams are all well and good, but even here, reality creeps in. Can Mia and Dylan overcome that to reach their happily ever after?

Excerpt:

“Inside.” His voice was hoarse. “Touch inside. In the way you’d like me to touch you. Show me, Mia. Show me.”

Her body was on fire as she moved her hand. She’d show him, and rejoiced that she’d found a person who desired her so much.

“Like this?”
With an insouciance she wouldn’t have believed she had, Mia wet her fingers in her mouth and moved them to her pussy. Slowly, she pushed inside herself.

The look on his face gave her courage to move them further inside. As she scraped the walls of her channel, her clit tingled and sharp arrows of pleasure honed in on her nipples.
Her juices coated her fingers, and without conscious thought, she moved her hand to coat her nipples with her essence. She trembled as she returned it to her heated sheath. Her head fell back and she gave herself to the sensations that bombarded her.

“My turn.” Dylan stood up and pushed his chair back.
It fell over and hit the floor with a bang. Mia jumped at the unexpected noise and her hand moved out of her channel and dropped onto her lap. He lifted it to his lips.

“Ah, so good, it tastes of you.” Goose bumps covered her skin as he put her fingers into his mouth and licked them one by one. “Now I can’t wait, my lovely Mia. Are you ready?”

Raven lives in Scotland, along with her husband and their two cats—their children having flown the nest—surrounded by beautiful scenery, which inspires a lot of the settings in her books.

She is used to sharing her life with the occasional deer, red squirrel, and lost tourist, to say nothing of the scourge of Scotland—the midge.

A lover of reading, she appreciates the history inside a book, and the chance to peek into the lives of those from years ago. Raven admits that she enjoys the research for her books almost as much as the writing; so much so, that sometimes she realizes she’s strayed way past the information she needs to know, and not a paragraph has been added to her WIP.

Her lovely long-suffering husband is learning to love the dust bunnies, work the Aga, and be on stand-by with a glass of wine.

Do You Know R. C. Murphy? (new release!)

Editing for the Forces of Good

By R.C. Murphy

You’ve finished the first draft of your book. The pages zip out of your printer and you make a pile in the center of your office to dance around in a fit of pure joy. Nothing, nothing can bring you down off of Cloud Nine. In that moment, you are convinced nothing so brilliant has ever been put to paper. It is a wonderful feeling . . . until you send your brilliant manuscript to an editor and they hack your baby to pieces and feed it to the wolves.
Okay, I’m exaggerating a little. But in the heat of the moment, it feels like you’re watching someone rain all over your hard work.None of us are perfect. I have an amazing editor who I’ve worked with on my last two releases. Despite my newest book, Enslaved, having a pretty clean manuscript (her words, not mine), things popped up during editing I couldn’t fathom being there in the first place.
For instance, a mysterious tense change from past to present at random intervals starting halfway through the book. Despite all my complaints, (Word must have changed it after being swapped from .doc to .docx, aliens abducted the manuscript to make me look silly, demons ate the proper words!) I knew it was my fault. I got caught up in the heat of creating new, exciting words and went on automatic while writing. It happens. We
aren’t gods, even though we are responsible for creating whole new worlds and universes.
Going through the editing process also gives you a chance to run your newborn manuscript past another set of eyes. The editor can’t read your mind and must rely on what is on the page to tell the story. If there is a weird gap in the action or a character veers too far from where you’ve established, there is someone there to wave a flag and say, “Yo, wait! This doesn’t make a lick of sense.”
Editing has been cast as the bane of a writer’s existence. However, I’ve used each round through the editing wringer as a learning experience. Each time I come out with more information to help me write the next manuscript cleanly. A clean MS means less time in post-production before publishing (if you are self-publishing or going through a small press publisher). Basically I’m telling you to suck it up, listen to a professional editor (or read the heck out of editing guides), and become nice and friendly with the editing process. It would be a shame to spend months, years on a book just to have it ripped apart by readers due to simple fixes you could have fixed by taking just a little more time and editing it thoroughly.
My favorite editing tip? If your dialog is a constant problem, read it out loud. Each character should have a different rhythm to how they speak. Hearing it will allow you to tweak the dialog to fit the character. Also, you’ll sound crazy. But hey, most writers are anyway, right?

Do You Know Jocelyn Dex? (contest)

You may have noticed I love hosting other authors here, though I don’t do it on a regularly set schedule. But what’s even better than hosting random authors? Hosting my sisters from the same wonderful publisher! Please welcome Jocelyn Dex.

Hi. I’m Jocelyn Dex. Araya’s Addiction, an erotic paranormal romance, is my debut short novel. It features “Sempires”, a species of female demon that requires semen to survive. I’m totally excited to share the blurb, the cover and an excerpt with you today.

Araya’s Addiction Blurb

When Kean wakes up naked, collared and locked in a cell, he knows thinking with his dick has finally gotten him into trouble. Kean, part Incubus, enjoys scorching and frequent sex. One night, he finds himself a prisoner forced to help a Sempire rescue her daughter from certain death.
To gain his freedom, Kean must provide Araya with his semen to save her life, but she refuses it, even though the lust between them is undeniable. Determined to escape and to help Araya, Kean ups the stakes and forces Araya into a situation that makes it impossible for her to continue refusing him. Feeling betrayed, Araya enacts a scheme to get Kean out of her life. Her best laid plans may awaken emotions that will bind them to each other forever.
Araya’s Addiction Excerpt

Kean’s body ached in ways he’d never experienced—a burning, piercing agony. A groan escaped his lips as a cooling sensation comforted his neck, then his brow. He struggled to remember what he’d done to make himself feel so horrible. Had he pulled a massive drunk and this was the worst hangover of his life?
“Are you awake?” A small, feminine voice asked.
Wait. Had he brought a female home with him? No. He didn’t bring females to his home. He went to theirs so he could get out when he wanted. He must be hung over at his latest conquest’s home. Why couldn’t he remember anything? He struggled to open his eyes. Damn things felt glued together.
He growled as soon as his eyes focused on the frail female bent over him and the memories flooded back to him. What the hell had happened? What had the demon done to him? And wait, why was she wiping him down with a damp cloth?
“What’d you do to me?” he croaked.
Her eyes widened. “Nothing,” she said in a small voice, the weakness in it unmistakable.
“Bullshit.” He tried to sit up but his head pounded and spun so he stayed down.
“You’ll feel better soon. Just don’t try to hurt me again.”
She stood on shaky legs and ambled to the bed where she selected a pillow and brought it back to where he lay. She wore nothing but a short green satin robe. She helped him lift his head enough to slide the pillow under and then placed the damp cloth across his forehead.
The small effort she’d made seemed to have exhausted her. She sat on the floor a couple feet from him, knees pulled to her chest, her chin resting on her knees and her breathing strained. He could snap her in half with two fingers.
“What’s your name?” she asked him.
He ignored her question. “Shouldn’t you be scared right now?”
Her lips lifted at the corners. “Scared of what? A helpless, naked man laid out on my floor?”
Oh yeah. He forgot he was naked. Hell, she could at least look a little embarrassed. But helpless? Him? Hell no. His male pride forced him to stand even though every muscle in his body screamed in protest, and his head felt as if an ice pick was being shoved into his gray matter.
He swayed on his feet, but damn it he’d stay standing if it killed him. “Kean.” He answered her earlier question through gritted teeth.
She clucked her tongue as she stood. To his satisfaction, she also swayed, although he didn’t know why.
“I’m Araya. Why don’t you have a seat before you fall?” she suggested. “I think I’ll do the same.” She moved to the bed and lay on her side facing him.
He chose the chair closest to him, not because it looked most comfortable, but because he felt he would collapse at any second.
Again he asked, “What did you do to me?”
She sighed. “It’s the collar. As long as you don’t try to harm me or my family, you won’t experience that pain again.” She frowned. “You’re stronger than the others. They were out for at least an hour. You were only out for fifteen minutes.”
Others? How many others had Talith brought here? And why? The girl was not a goddess like Talith, but she wasn’t so unattractive that no man would submit to her without being abducted and collared. And her eyes… The golden color mesmerized him. He would fuck her if the circumstances of their meeting were different. He should have known mother Sempire wouldn’t leave him alone with her daughter totally unprotected.
“What’s wrong with you?” He didn’t give a shit, but he needed to gather all the information he could.
She grimaced. “It doesn’t matter.”
“It matters to me. I’m the one who was abducted, collared and locked in this room with you.”
“I’m sorry about that,” she said. The sincerity in her voice surprised him. “My mother is determined to help me.”
“And my semen will help you?”
Finally, she blushed.

New Release!

It’s finally here! My first release of 2013 is now available as an ebook from Ellora’s Cave Publishing here. It’s a part of their Blush line, but don’t let that deter you. I promise there is still some steamy lovin’ between Elle and Hank, just not as much as in my other books.

It’s the third in my Love Beyond Barriers series but can definitely be read alone. The story of Elle and Hunky Hank is one that just flowed through my fingers with relative ease. I had a great time writing it, though there were a couple of emotional moments. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Blurb:

Blush sensuality level: This is a sensual romance (may have explicit love scenes, but not erotic in frequency or type).
Book three in the Love Beyond Barriers series.
A few months ago I finally moved on with my life and got away from my abusive ex-boyfriend. That should be a good thing, right? But now I’m living with Hunky Hank, my ex’s former friend turned my Knight in Shining Armor. He’s great at everything and treats me like a queen. Unfortunately that makes me feel needy when I’m trying to be more independent. When I need to be more independent. So when I started getting vibes of another woman, I knew it was time to move out and move on. So much easier said than done. It’s not so easy to leave behind the temptation of the most perfect guy I’ve ever known. He’s the only one who looks at me and instead of seeing a shattered image, he sees someone who is too hard to break.
